Adi and Rudolf Dassler ran one shoe company in the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach until the Second World War left each convinced the other had betrayed him. In 1948 they split it into Adidas and Puma, built factories on opposite banks of the same river and fought over athletes for the rest of their lives. This episode follows the whole story: the laundry room workshop, Jesse Owens in Berlin, the war, the air raid shelter, Rudolf's arrest, the split, the town of bent necks, the miracle of Bern, the broken Pelé pact, and the peace match of 2009.
Founder Stories tells the story of one founder per episode, told plainly and in order.
